10@10 – Operation Transformation
Well done to all the boys and girls who participated in the 10@10 this morning.
Primary schools all over the country got up and moving this morning as part of a country wide initiative called 10@10. The 10@10 is an Operation Transformation initiative to get children to do 10 minutes of exercise at 10 am during the RTÉ One series and to continue the mini-workout into the future.
The popular lifestyle programme is celebrating its tenth year making this morning’s workout, that is happening in primary schools nationwide, all the more special.
The boys and girls in our school were divided into mixed aged groups with children from each class. The children who are on the Active Schools Committee were the leaders of each group. They had to guide the younger children and ensure that their team stayed together and kept moving!!!
We set up six stations with a leader at each station explaining what to do. To begin with we did a short warm up and when the whistle blew, we got started. We spent 1 and 1/2 minutes at each station. Once the whistle blew we moved again! We even had music to add to the fun!
Station 1: Running, side steps, high knees and heel kicks!
Station 2: Hula hooping!
Station 3: Squats, squat jumps, squat punches!
Station 4: Skipping!
Station 5: Jumping jacks, scissor jumps and hip jumps!
Station 6: Exercises with Jim and Keith!

Active Archie’s Adventures
Through our Active Flag we are raising awareness of fitness among children. We will be aiming to explore as many avenues as possible to keep the children fit and active.
Active Archie has arrived in Kiltealty N.S. and has visited the children to say hello. As his name suggests, he likes getting lots of exercise and he really enjoys trying new activities.
We would like to invite boys and girls in the junior classes and their families to bring Active Archie along with them if they are doing some kind of physical activity, or going to a sporting event as either participants or spectators.
Active Archie will help us see all the activities that the children are involved in at home. This may be organised activities or simply bouncing on the trampoline. Active Archie will be having all sorts of exciting adventures in the next few months!
It would be great if the boys and girls could write about what they did with Active Archie and/or draw a picture about their adventure. Hopefully Active Archie will get to do lots of fun activities with the boys and girls and their families.

Fun in the Sun – Orienteering
Ms Byrne’s Junior and Senior Infants have being making the most of the sunshine!!
We had great fun orienteering during P.E. Children worked in pairs. Each pair received a card with some pictures on it. These pictures were scattered all around the school yard. The pairs worked together to find the pictures they had, and then coloured the corresponding box with the correct colour crayon. When we were all finished, each pair compared their card with a pair that had the same card. It was great fun to run in the sun
