Witch Walk

You might have noticed a few unusual characters lurking around the village this week as we had our annual Witch Walk . We got a few frights ourselves outside the Tatch from some skeletons and zombies hanging around outside. Sing Out Loud!

A massive well done and congratulations to our pupils from 3rd – 6th who took part in the Sing Out Loud Concert in Wexford Opera House in November 19th.

Many thanks to the teachers for their time and effort in preparing the pupils and accompanying them to the weekend show.

It was a fantastic experience for all involved and parents enjoyed a thrilling show!!

3rd & 4th Class had a special visit this week from Enniscorthy Fire Station. Two firemen came out to our school and taught us all about fire safety, how to identify dangers and what to do in the case of an emergency. They told us lots of stories and answered lots of questions. We even got our own fire safety pack to bring home!

Field Trip to Bowes Shop!

We learned all about our local area this month. We talked about the facilities and services that we have here in Kiltealy. We went to Bowes Shop and carried out a survey. We asked lots of questions and examined all the products that were available in the shop. We had great fun and even got to buy a treat!

WeDo Lego

The boys and girls in 3rd and 4th class made lots of fun things using lego sets sent to us from the Wexford Education Centre. We worked in groups and made various different things from race cars and bees to helicopters and much more. Using our ipads, we downloaded the app WeDo2 and made our creations move and make sounds using our coding skills. It was great fun!

Each class group covered a different area of the village and did a great job in cleaning up their allocated area. The whole school participated in a céilí

Ionsaí na hInse was the dance of choice while the infants practiced their Irish Dancing steps in a group circle. As you can see from our photos this was an enjoyable afternoon.

Grandparent’s Day

(Feb 2017)

The pupils of Kiltealy National School were busy preparing for Grandparent’s Day and Saint Brigid’s Day. All off the pupils made St. Brigid Crosses and completed project work on St. Brigid. Poetry and art work for Grandparents was also completed and put on display.

Mass was celebrated on 3/02/17, for Grandparents and St Brigid. The mass was prepared by 3rd and 4th class, who worked on the theme, readings, prayers of the faithful and offertory procession. Music and choir was provided by the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th class.

Refreshments were provided in Kiltealy School after the celebration. Grandparents and families enjoyed a cup of tea while looking at the pupils work and chatting to staff.

Firemen Visit 3rd & 4th Class

(January 2017)

Two firemen from Enniscorthy Fire Station came to our school today to visit 3rd and 4th class. We learned what to do in the case of a fire and how to prevent a fire from happening. They shared lots of real life stories with us and gave us loads of tips to keep safe around fire. We even got a checklist to bring home to check our own homes to make sure we’re as safe as we possibly can be!

Funky Kids Concert!

On the 19th and 20th of December, after three months of practice, the children finally put on their Funky Kids Concert for all their family and friends. It was a fantastic show filled with lots of brilliant singing and dancing. There was something for everyone, from Noah’s Ark and The Grease Melody to Puppet on a String and Monster Mash. It was great to see everybody up singing and dancing and having FUN!

Well done to everyone involved especially the stars of our show, the children. The staff and children from Kiltealy N.S.would like to thank Denis and Olivia (Funky Kids) for all their hard work over the past few months!

Harvest Time Of Year

(Oct 2016)

Children from 1st -6th class enjoyed harvesting the lovely vegetables sown last Spring. 4th & 5th class pupils were very eager to see the produce from their mini garden which they cared for so well since the Spring.  Thank you to Jim Hanrahan who helped set up and maintain our garden. Jim passed on lots of gardening knowledge to our garden carers. Well done to all involved. Enjoy our photos below.

           Welcome ” Incredible Edibles” to Kiltealy N.S.

Third and Fourth Class are taking part in the Incredible Edibles Programme. Incredible Edibles is a healthy eating initiative for Primary School pupils. It encourages schools across the country to get busy growing carrots, lettuce, potatoes, strawberries and turnips. Schools are supplied with grow packs containing everything they needed to grow a veritable feast of healthy foods!

Thank you to all who supported our Brown Coin Collection. We have had an amazing response. Third and Fourth Class been working hard sorting and counting all your coins. We are delighted to announce we have collected €626 so far and we still have some coins to count.

The Marrog

3rd & 4th class had great fun learning the poem ” The Marrog”.

They used this poem as a stimulus for an art lesson and created a picture how they envisaged the Marrog looked.

The children also writing a creative story about the Marrog visiting their class!

The Story of a River

3rd & 4th class learned all about the story of a river, from it’s source to where it enters the sea. They can also identify meanders in a river. Have a look at some of their lovely drawings…….

Reduce , Re-use, Recycle

3rd and 4th class are learning all about how we can help our environment by reducing out waste, re-using materials and recycling materials. They have made campaign posters for the Green Schools to encourage everyone to Reduce, Re-use and Recycle.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

This year , 3rd and 4th class read the novel ” Diary of a Wimpy Kid”.

They decided to design their own book cover for the novel ,  I think these are very creative and interesting….have a look….

3rd and 4th class have been learning all about the lives of the Celts. They have learned about the clothes the Celts wore, the houses they lived in, how they hunted, what beliefs and traditions they had, what children did during this era. Here are pictures of our “Celtic Factfile ” display
